Struggling to start over again after being divorced and widowed while still in her twenties, Sydney tutors the daughter of a wealthy couple during a New Hampshire summer but finds herself caught up in a bitter family squabble.

Little Brown

A Spellbinding novel about a young widow and the two brothers she meets one New England Summer.

Blackwell North Amer
At the age of twenty-nine, Sydney has already been once divorced and once widowed. Trying to regain her footing after this tragic double blow, she answers the ad of a couple seeking a tutor for their teenage daughter and ends up spending the summer at the cottage of the Edwards family on the stunning New Hampshire coast.
No sooner does Sydney settle into the household routine - acting as something between a servant and a family member - than the Edwardses' two grown sons, Ben and Jeff, show up for a weekend. Ben is a real-estate executive, Jeff is a professor. Both are handsome, both are accomplished, both are competitive. And both seem completely enraptured by Sydney.
As the weeks pass in this seaside idyll, Sydney enters a strange love triangle, infused with old rivalries and bitter secrets she can only guess at. And she begins to fear that the brothers' competition for her affections could tear apart their family - and the fragile existence she has painstakingly rebuilt.

Hachette Book Group
At the age of 29, Sydney has already been once divorced and once widowed. Trying to regain her footing once again, she has answered an ad to tutor the teenage daughter of a well-to-do couple as they spend a sultry summer in their oceanfront New Hampshire cottage.

But when the Edwards' two grown sons, Ben and Jeff, arrive at the beach house, Sydney finds herself caught up in a destructive web of old tensions and bitter divisions. As the brothers vie for her affections, the fragile existence Sydney has rebuilt for herself is threatened. With the subtle wit, lyrical language, and brilliant insight into the human heart that has led her to be called "an author at one with her métier" (Miami Herald), Shreve weaves a novel about marriage, family, and the supreme courage that it takes to love.

I'm not sure how to renew a book on the library web page but I would like to keep this for another 2 weeks. As soon as I am done reading it I will return it - before the due date.

an enjoyable read, though would have liked a more concrete ending.
