From the tender and honest to the laugh-out-loud funny, Jann's stories from home and from the road during her pre-celebrity years will take you to unexpected places, including high school parties in farmer's fields, sleepovers under the stars, hard-to-believe summer jobs and the time she was stuck upside down in a brick barbecue. She reminds us of the inestimable value to a child of having teachers who believe in you and wide open spaces to play. But with the good times come the bad (and not just the bad perm). Jann opens up about the darker side of her so-called prairie perfect nuclear family and the first signs that her eldest brother was a uniquely troubled young man. In the days when Jann was experiencing a lot of firsts--first school play, first home perm, first kiss--how lucky for all of us that she stole away to her basement and taught herself her first song on her mother's guitar.

I do love Jann and her music, but felt that this book was all over the place. She says a lot but doesn't say much.

I love Jann Arden, and this was an insightful, funny look into her past and her rise to fame. She's led quite an interesting life!

At first I didn't like this book (like describing your own birth, and how hard it was on your mom, what the ???). I tuned out in the beginning... but around the mid way point I got back into it. It was interesting to read about Jann's brothers, and experiences with perms, boys, the fishing captain, getting robbed, etc. I'd like to know more about Jann's adult life. She seems to be on TV a lot yet I don't know much about her.

Parts of the book made me laugh. I found out so much about Jann that I didn't know before. It was a good read. Enjoyed the book.

Jann's funny, sunny and warm personality comes through vibrantly. She's such a loving person, with a forgiving nature. A pleasure to read about her family's ups and downs and her own struggles in the early days to figure out who and what she is in the process of becoming. Thanks for writing, Jann!

Absolutely loved this book! Anyone who likes Jann Arden will laugh their way through her interesting childhood stories of days growing up in rural Alberta and her struggles to find herself and her music.
