Baker & Taylor
Sixteen-year-old Amber, hoping to spend one perfect day alone at the beach before her world is turned upside down, meets, and feels a strong connection to Cade, who is looking for his own escape, for a very different reason.

Simon and Schuster
From the author of I Heart You, You Haunt Me, an irresistibly romantic novel in verse.

Amber’s life is spinning out of control. All she wants is to turn up the volume on her iPod until all of the demands of family and friends fade away. So she sneaks off to the beach to spend a day by herself.
Then Amber meets Cade. Their attraction is instant, and Amber can tell he’s also looking for an escape. Together they decide to share a perfect day: no pasts, no fears, no regrets.
The more time that Amber spends with Cade, the more she’s drawn to him. And the more she’s troubled by his darkness. Because Cade’s not just living in the now—he’s living each moment like it’s his last.
Told in verse and brimming with raw emotion and pure romance, this is a gracefully woven tale of life-changing secrets and unexpected friendship.

"It's a constant battle./A war between/ remembering and forgetting" -Lisa Schoreder, "The Day Before"

I was actually surprised by this book and how much I enjoyed reading it. I don't really like poetry, but the writing is so simple and stunning that it didn't read like a bunch of poems. The style works extremely well with the plot, it somehow turns what could be a boring and teen-angst ridden catastrophe into a captivating tale. The verse is relatable and charming, like an inspirational quote trending the web, except that some of the lines in this book are actually very popular online. That's how you know a book is good: if people quote it online.

I really love this book. I literally read it in one sitting. I've only just started reading novels written in verse, and Schroeder wrote it so well, some parts of it really hit me, and I had to read it twice. It was really sweet, I love it!
