From Rob Thomas, the creator of the television series and movie phenomenon Veronica Mars, comes the first book in a thrilling mystery series that picks up where the feature film left off.

Ten years after graduating from high school in Neptune, California, Veronica Mars is back in the land of sun, sand, crime, and corruption. She’s traded in her law degree for her old private investigating license, struggling to keep Mars Investigations afloat on the scant cash earned by catching cheating spouses until she can score her first big case.

Now it’s spring break, and college students descend on Neptune, transforming the beaches and boardwalks into a frenzied, week-long rave. When a girl disappears from a party, Veronica is called in to investigate. But this is no simple missing person’s case; the house the girl vanished from belongs to a man with serious criminal ties, and soon Veronica is plunged into a dangerous underworld of drugs and organized crime. And when a major break in the investigation has a shocking connection to Veronica’s past, the case hits closer to home than she ever imagined.

In Veronica Mars, Rob Thomas has created a groundbreaking female detective who’s part Phillip Marlowe, part Nancy Drew, and all snark. With its sharp plot and clever twists, The Thousand-Dollar Tan Line will keep you guessing until the very last page.

it's hard not to give this book highest points just because I've enjoyed the Veronica Mars series several times and I'm happy to encounter the characters again, especially narrated by Kristen Bell. I think the authors have done a good job of aging the characters. The audiobook was a good companion during household tasks and errands, and I'll listen to the other one in the series, and hope for future additions.

A good book for anyone but especially a Veronica Mars fan. I enjoyed the mystery and the old gang is back in Neptune. It starts where the Veronica Mars movie finished. The new series might be based on this books storyline I read. The best of the two books.

I loved it! I am very happy Rob Thomas has found a way to continue Veronica Mars after the movie. We're not ready to let go!

I found the first half of this book quite dull and full of cliches, as if written by numbers, using formulaic methods. I was quite drawn back by this. But I must say that the last hundred pages were better (somewhat) introducing some curve balls and surprises.

Book is set right after the movie took place. Loved the show, the movies and now the books. We get to learn about the characters in a different atmosphere in a different time while, Veronica is putting her crime solving ways to new cases.

Not a mystery fan and not an audiobook mystery fan, but this extension of the Veronica Mars universe was so fun and fast paced and sneaky - I loved it. Bell as narrator really helps you imagine it all in your head!

If you love Veronica Mars, you'll love the books. They have the same sass and wit, but for a more adult audience.

This book was great. I felt like I was watching a really intense episode of Veronica Mars. Thomas and Graham hit the characters' voices square on the head. Great twists, great case.

Great, easy read.

Continues from where the movie left off after the Veronica Mars TV show.

Stays true to the show and characters.
Entertaining and light reading.

I'm not usually a reader of mysteries, but since I loved the t.v. show, and did enjoy the recent movie, I decided to try this. I actually listened to the mp3 audiobook, which is narrated by Kristin Bell.

If you're already a Veronica Mars fan, you really do want to see the movie first, as this novel picks up right where the movie left off. It read just like an episode (maybe 2 or 3) of the series, which I appreciated. I will say that I expected to see a lot more of Logan in the book and that was a disappointment. With that said, I will read the next one.
