The target audience for this book is 8 to 12 years old. I’m a scant 50 years beyond this demographic. Nevertheless, I read it and was mildly satisfied. The scent of political correctness infuses the book – the “team” is a multicultural hash; we must work together and play nice to succeed; rich boy is a predictable, selfish lout; I only win when we all win; participation trophies all around; libraries are citadels of true learning and we must spend lavishly on them – so that the book is therefore siphoned of drama it might otherwise have had. Moral of the story: It's nice being nice to the nice. All of this might be comforting and believable to an eight-year-old, though it must border on absurdity for a self-aware twelve-year-old. The book probably won't significantly damage many children.

I liked this book so much!
I think "Escape from Mr. Lemoncello's Library" is now one of my favourite books. My favourite character was Sierra Russel and (naturally) I disliked Charles Chiltington the most. I liked that the "players" teamed up. The story's about 12 children who, by looking for clues in the books and exhibits, has to escape from the world-famous gamester, Mr. Luigi L. Lemoncello's new library. (The library sounds really amazing -- I wish there was one near me...)
It was neat how the author refers to lots of well-known books, and how the reader can try and piece together the riddles too. I will try to figure out the puzzle Chris Grabenstein mentions in the author's note! I listened to the audiobook read by Jesse Bernstein and I think that's very nice as well!
Highly recommended to all book, game, and puzzle/mystery lovers!!

love this book

I usually screen books before passing it down to my kids. I could not put this book down. It was very engaging. Full of mysterious twist and turn. This is a book that all kids can relate too, about a game, about prizes, the excitement of finding clues, how to value all friends from different background and knowledge, and of course about friendship. My son (10 year old), carried this book everywhere for 2 days. Loved it!
