Childhood sweethearts Alan and Celia, both widowed and in their 70s, fall for each other all over again when they are reunited on the internet after nearly 60 years. Their relationship is a celebratory tale of the power of love at any age. But this is also a story about family, and with family comes baggage. Celia's respectable, head teacher daughter Caroline is juggling bringing up two boys and dealing with her husband's infidelity.

Excellent show. Interesting, down to earth, and hilarious. You can see this happening with someone you know. And I love family dramas that aren't my family, so when I look at mine I think they aren't that bad :)

Enjoy the honest dialogue in this well-written script. Enjoy the usual fine acting (performed by every cast member) that you expect from a first-rate BBC series. I particularly enjoyed the performances of Sarah Lancashire (Caroline) and Derek Jacobi (Alan), who proves his dramatic mastery once again. This very entertaining adult fairy tale happily omits the anguish of poverty so you can vicariously escape into the lives of these fictional characters who deal with many emotional difficulties but who never worry about where their next meal is coming from. This series really shines when the characters keep going in spite of difficult emotional situations. The unimaginable highs and lows presented are given the time to be dealt with patiently. As one character says, "It takes time to adjust." Human foibles are presented honestly, and at times a character's reaction is hard to watch because you want that character to behave better. We are human and limited by our humanity but also inspired by our humanity. This series ended at the right time on the right note at series 3 - no need for a series 4.

I have just started watching this - great acting and writing, good, complex characters. Boil the kettle and get stuck in for some quality British TV!

Very enjoyable, well-written, clever, and nostalgic. LTIH's characters possess real emotions, needs, and feelings. Doesn't shy away from difficult subjects like ageism, prejudice, and family dysfunction. Derek Jacobi, Anne Reid are fantastic, and the supporting cast, especially Nicola Walker, are stellar. Some humorous moments keep things light, but still substantive. Can't wait to watch series 2!

This is a wonderful show. I have seen series 1 and 2. Both series were a joy to watch.

I found this heartwarming whirlwind romance of two lonely elderly souls (reignited after several decades, and tested with the trials of family dysfunction and melodrama) to be endearing, uplifting, and true to life. I truly have yet to complain about a BBC miniseries production. They're always SPOT ON. On to the next. FIVE STARS.

BBC does it again, some may take office but it all ties in very well. The tv shows and movies this side of the pond have to use lots of profanity, crash's and bang, bang shot them up also very loud music. Seeing as they already have the third series in the can hope the library orders the second soon.
