This is such a beautifully written work of children's literature. I read it aloud to a Grade 5 class, and they (and I) were captivated by the suspenseful tale and the author's gorgeous use of language. A treasure.

Funny, charming, magical, delightful book! Highly recommend. I loved the juxtaposition of an anxious, intelligent, down-to-earth girl who loves science and the scientific method, faced with the fact that she has a magic quest to fulfill. Absolutely great read!

A retelling of the Snow Queen story as if she was never defeated and lives in the modern world. We follow along with Ophelia as she must find a way to save a boy who is a prisoner of the Snow Queen. The world is held perilously in a young girl's hands as she juggles a family who does not believe her and a horde of evil things out to stop her from finishing a quest started hundreds of years ago. A fresh adventure to the old tale.

This is a children's fantasy that has, at times, some really great writing, and the premise of a museum full of odd and dangerous mysteries and an evil enchantress, manages to feel both fresh and familiar at the same time. However, at times I felt this fell into the trap that plagues a lot of recent children's fantasy of being overly twee and precious. This might just be a matter of taste, however, so I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to fans of the genre.

Ophelia has come to a foreign city because her father is mounting an exhibition of swords at a museum. While exploring the museum, Ophelia’s rational nature is tested when she comes upon a small, locked door with a keyhole. When she peers through the keyhole she sees the Marvelous Boy looking back at her. He tells her how he was imprisoned by the Snow Queen, and that the world is about to be destroyed unless a certain sword is found.

A luminous retelling of the Snow Queen, this is the story of unlikely heroine Ophelia Jane Worthington-Whittard who doesn't believe in anything that can't be proven by science. She and her sister Alice are still grieving for their dead mother when their father takes a job in a strange museum in a city where it always snows. On her very first day in the museum Ophelia discovers a boy locked away in a long forgotten room. He is a prisoner of Her Majesty, the Snow Queen. And he has been waiting for Ophelia's help.

As Ophelia embarks on an incredible journey to rescue the boy everything that she believes will be tested. Along the way she learns more and more about the boy's own remarkable journey to reach her and save the world.

A story within a story, this a modern day fairytale about the power of friendship, courage and love, and never ever giving up.
