For me - When it comes to the likes of vampire movies - I'd say that they can all easily be slotted into one of these 3 following categories - Good - Mediocre - Awful.

And - With that said - I will give you just one guess as to which category I place "Interview".

Without question - This dreadfully disappointing horror film's 2 biggest and 2 most damaging deficits were, of course, the total miscasting of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt into the story's all-important lead roles.

It was especially the casting of Cruise (Mr. Zero-Charisma, himself) as the "Lestat" character that promptly brought "Interview's" potentially promising story down to an absolute dead halt.

It seems that every time I see Cruise in any picture - I'm always left completely perplexed as to why the hell his vast popularity (and roles in big-budget productions) continues to prevail. 'Cause if there ever was a totally vacant, empty-headed, amateurish actor to successfully endure in Hollywood Heaven - Cruise would definitely be the one.

Ha! Tom Cruise (Mr. No-Talent) in a vampire movie.

Yep. Believe me - It's all even more stupid than you could ever imagine possible.

It's surprising how many big names made it into this film: Cruise, Pitt, Banderas, to name a few. This is a very well done adaptation. It's a shame the sequal movie is rather dreadful.

This is Tom Cruise's movie. I myself am not a fan of Tom, but his performance as this ruthless character is endearing because of its panache and humour. He's got a murderous thirst, but he does it with a wink and a smirk, always fashionable no matter the era. I found this film delightful, especially considering that I didn't expect much. As far as vampire flicks go, INTERVIEW WITH A VAMPIRE is among the better ones. I recommend it.

Excellent adaptation of the book, outstanding acting, in my opinion, tough material and worth the read and view.

This is a decent vampire movie in large part because of the enduring sophistication of Anne Rice's story (not to mention the set & costume crew, holy cow), & all casting controversy aside, it still plays pretty well in my opinion. Against the superficial luxury of the vampires' lifestyle & their various superhuman abilities, ultimately what we're presented with is the terrible smallness & sorrow of their world, the isolation, the psychic dissonance of living outside the strictures of time & death, making the vampire legend for the rest of us, curiously enough, very much 'a celebration of life' like on all the funeral flyers. Also recommended for anyone who hates annoying French theater people. CR

After watching Let the Right One In and The Only Lovers Left Alive as far as vampire films go, meh. Loved the costumes of two male characters. I thought the acting was strained, except for Dunst who was scary, and I felt really bad for her. It was a neat story.

British director Neil Jordan tried to do a different vampire movie, but the result was not particularly spectacular. It has a gay theme, and a young child actor playing the role of a young vampire. However, collectively as a film it is just OK.

Not as dated as I was expecting, yet unlike today's films and movies. It was kind of dreamy and historical, more documentary than horror (documentaries never have a plot either). Good-looking vampires, and the little girl actress was terrific (not so much in later movies!).

Neil Jordan's adaptation of the Anne Rice novel works fairly well. It follows a melancholy vampire (Pitt) telling his story to a reporter in the present day, recounting the tale of the vampire who made him, the girl he had a hand in turning to a vampire, and the others he has met in his travels. Pitt is sympathetic in the lead, with Kirsten Dunst holding her own as the vampire in an eternal girl's body. Antonio Banderas and Stephen Rea do very different turns as vampires. Despite getting the top billing, Tom Cruise is a supporting player as Lestat, and unfortunately is the only weak part of the cast, as usual playing himself. The man is incapable of disappearing into a character.
