Allie McMurphy has inherited the Historic McMurphy Hotel and Fudge Shop on Mackinac Island from her grandfather who she spent summers with as a child. Now as an adult she finds herself an outsider in the tight nit tourist community, struggling to restore the glory of the old hotel. When she finds the dead body of her family's greatest rival in her closet, she discovers that she is the prime suspect on a island where everyone is taking sides
This was a fun, warmhearted mystery. I love the quirky characters, the dog, and the struggles Allie goes through to make herself part of the community. I also adore the setting. This was a fun quick read great for people who love light mysteries and love fudge.
It took me a while to really get into the groove with this book, but after I started to get into the characters I started to enjoy it and am glad that I stuck with it because it turned out to be a good mystery. I will be reading more of this series.
A promising start to a new culinary mystery series. I enjoyed the author's attempt at light banter during the investigation and so far, I don't have a huge problem with any of the characters' personalities.
I like the setting (Mackinac Island, where the only motorized vehicles allowed are emergency ones, like an ambulance). I like fudge and the fact that there are several recipes for fudge throughout the book. I found Allie to be a sympathetic character and enjoyed the somewhat convoluted plot. This is the first in a new series and I look forward to reading the next one.
