A young man with the ability to time travel discovers that finding true love isn't as easy as he thought it would be in this romantic comedy from writer/director Richard Curtis (Love Actually, Pirate Radio). Tim Lake (Domhnall Gleeson) is 21 and lonely. In the harsh morning light following a depressing New Year's Eve party, however, he discovers a family secret that will change his life forever. Entrusted by his father (Bill Nighy) with the knowledge that the men in their family can time travel, Cornwall native Tim relocates to London to study law, and find a girlfriend. The moment Tim locks eyes with gorgeous Mary (Rachel McAdams) he knows he's found the woman of his dreams. But as soon as they've fallen in love, an unexpected glitch in the time travel renders them complete strangers again. Now, in order to win back Mary's heart, Tim will have to travel into the past time and again. Eventually, he seems to master the process, using his unique talent to create an unforgettable marriage proposal, ensure his wedding to Mary goes off without a hitch, and circumvent a massive traffic jam that blocks their route to the hospital when his wife goes into labor, but in time Tim discovers that the true key to happiness lies not in his ability to fix the problems of the past, but instead make the absolute most of his life in the present.

It starts off slow, but builds up to a charming and touching story about love, family, and life.

About Time is a feel-good movie about how great it would be if we got a second chance at everything. Or a third chance. The focus is on personal relationships; when, after meeting and conversing with a potential significant other, you discover you had a piece of lettuce stuck between your teeth (which may explain why she kept avoiding eye contact), wouldn't it be great to be able to wind back the clock, remove the lettuce and do it over? It is a bit like Groundhog Day, except that our hero can time travel at will (within limits) to remove the schlubby moments and substitute James Bondian moments. If I thought about it too much, I might conclude that this use of time travel is grossly unfair to the rest of us, but the movie focuses on how great it would be to remove misunderstandings and avoid self-destructive behavior. Hard to argue with that.

Such an enjoyable lovely movie! Made me laugh and cry! Read the other comments by fellow viewers - they have expressed it well. The description on the DVD box and online is not really what the movie is about in my opinion. What some see as "time travel" I saw as having the change to fix something you had or hadn't done. The actors and acting is superb! Wish there were movie movies of this quality and this engaging.

Funny, charming and poignant film that is really about enjoying the moment and the relationships in that moment, finding joy and the ability to appreciate the time you spend with those you care about. A lot of people have used the word "sweet" to describe it, and it really applies. I wouldn't call it a chick flick as my hubby enjoyed it every bit as much as I did. It's one of the few films I could watch over again. Is it me, or do the British really have a way with intelligent, funny and touching films?

Sweet movie about Life. The joys and sorrows, the ups and downs---all that make life, LIFE. Making the most of every moment and encounter. How even "little" moments are meaningful..loved it!

Could be my favorite movie. What I love about it is how flawed and yet deeply lovable the characters are. It is a story about relationships. A glimpse into this father son relationship made me cry. (Out of happiness.) The love everyone has for the uncle is beautiful. This movie is the embodiment of how to live a life well and thoughtfully lived.

And in the end I think I've learned the final lesson from my travels in time; and I've even gone one step further than my father did: The truth is I now don't travel back at all, not even for the day, I just try to live every day as if I've deliberately come back to this one day, to enjoy it, as if it was the full final day of my extraordinary, ordinary life.

From IMDb:
Tim: We're all traveling through time together, every day of our lives. All we can do is do our best to relish this remarkable ride.

Tim: And in the end I think I've learned the final lesson from my travels in time; and I've even gone one step further than my father did: The truth is I now don't travel back at all, not even for the day, I just try to live every day as if I've deliberately come back to this one day, to enjoy it, as if it was the full final day of my extraordinary, ordinary life.
===
Tim: And so he told me his secret formula for happiness. Part one of the two part plan was that I should just get on with ordinary life, living it day by day, like anyone else.

Tim: But then came part two of Dad's plan. He told me to live every day again almost exactly the same. The first time with all the tensions and worries that stop us noticing how sweet the world can be, but the second time noticing. Okay, Dad. Let's give it a go.

Good movie. And Margo is the added attraction in this one. I don't think I would've turned it down.
