This is a movie that never gets old. It takes place around Thanksgiving so it's perfect for watching during the holidays but it's entertaining any time of year. John Candy and Steve Martin make an absolutely hilarious team thrown into one bad situation after another, but there are a few touching moments. John Hughes did a great job with this film.

Still entertaining after all these years. Some cringe-worthy scenes during their stay at the motel. Very heartwarming ending.

Neal may be supremely uptight and Dell may be a dirty sock swinging slob, but these opposites overcome unrelenting obstacles, and much to Neal's disbelief, develop a hilarious and heartwarming friendship. Watching this movie is a Thanksgiving tradition in my house!

The finest comedy screenplay John Hughes ever wrote.

This is a terrific Thanksgiving movie. You can't go wrong with the combination of Steve Martin and John Candy. Planes, Trains and Automobiles was written and directed by John Hughes. He also wrote one of my favorite Christmas movies, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation, as well as many of my favorite teen movies. This movie is rated R for strong language and a brief sexual image.

My favorite movie ever!!

Always a story behind travelling and this movie shows exactly what can go wrong.

Sad parts and also funny parts which is why I love it; a true reflection of human spirit when one meets strangers while on the road.

A heart warming movie.

I recently rewatched this movie and was a bit disappointed. I remembered it being much funnier but when I watched it now there was just too much "gross" and stupid humor to be really funny. My 14 year old daughter did not find it funny at all, nor did my husband. Some funny moments and a touching end but over all disappointing to what I had remembered.

This is one of the most classic comedies out there! Possible one of the most epic road trips you will ever see on film, with the ultimate goal of getting home for Thanksgiving!

For me this movie was reminiscenct of “The Out of Towners” with Jack Lemon, and it came in a sad second. Of course everyone has their own unique sense of humor. My unique sense didn't find this movie comical, just silly.

Neal: Eh, look, I don't want to be rude, but I'm not much of a conversationalist, and I really want to finish this article, a friend of mine wrote it, so...
Del: Don't let me stand in your way, please don't let me stand in your way. The last thing I want to be remembered as is an annoying blabbermouth... You know, nothing grinds my gears worse than some chowderhead that doesn't know when to keep his big trap shut... If you catch me running off with my mouth, just give me a poke on the chubbs...

Susan Page: You shared a motel room with a complete stranger? Are you crazy?
Neal: Not yet. But I'm getting there.

Del: Was that seat hot or what? I feel like a Whopper. Turn me over, I'm done on this side. I'm afraid to look at my a**. There'll be griddle marks.
