Director Ralph Nelson made this somewhat conventional western, but as in many of his films he explored race relations of America. In this film, we get to see Sidney Poitier (African-American), John Hoyt (white man playing a Native-American), Bibi Andersson (Swedish Actress, famous for Ingmar Bergman film, Persona), James Garner (white man, widower of a Native-American), and Dennis Weaver (white-man with the Swedish wife who just happens to be the mother of a biracial child). This was the film just prior to Poitier’s blockbuster breakout films In the Heat of the Night, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, and To Sir with Love.
