Maurice and Ian are successful, but aging actors. The two are close friends whose conversation generally revolves around theatrical shop talk and the infirmities of other aging actors. Ian is fearful that death is right around the corner, so he agrees to let his niece's daughter, Jessie, move in to his flat to care for him. Jessie is a modern woman in her early twenties. She turns out to be a nightmare for Ian, especially since she is a hard-drinking, rude, and dismissive brat. But Maurice sees something else in the young woman, a potential for humanity which blossoms under his kindness and gentle guidance. For Maurice, something else blossoms as well - romantic love for a girl fifty years younger.

GLAD TO SEE PETER O'TOOLE GETTING WORK IN 2007. I DID NOT KNOW WHAT TO EXPECT AT HIS AGE. DON'T KNOW IF HE PASSED AWAY BY NOW. MOVIE WAS SLOW GOING. I DID SOME FAST FORWARDS. BONUS FEATURE WAS INTERESTING ABOUT 2 OLD ACTORS. FOUND THIS MOVIE ON DASHBOARD. I HAVE BEEN THRU THAT PROSTATE REMOVAL. WAS GOOD TO SEE RICHARD GRIFFITHS AGAIN. HE WAS THE BIG GUY AT THE RESTAURANT.

An old man too old for most sinning and a shallow young woman who has most of her sins ahead of her are the central theme in an environment of humor, pain and misuse. Excellent acting by O'Toole, as always.

Peter O'Toole makes you believe in the impossible. Could he be in love with a woman 50 years younger than himself? He has me as a believer! It is just great acting on everyone's part. It is a small movie and I think a lot of you may have missed it. If you are a Peter O'Toole fan, then you'll marvel at what he can do at an advanced age. Quite simply a good movie that might have overlooked.

Disgusting.

I was so excited about this film and, upon watching it, felt let down. Peter O'Toole is incredible, but I found it difficult to like his character. Vanessa Redgrave is underwhelming and the storyline seems hurried at the end. All in all: a great disappointment.

Reasonably good human-interest story but nothing extraordinary, despite powerhouse cast. Vanessa Redgrave plays an annoying role as the main character's ex-wife / doormat.
