Ted Crawford is a wealthy, brilliant, and meticulous structural engineer who lives in Los Angeles. He shoots his wife and entraps her lover. After the police arrive, he signs a confession. At his arraignment, he asserts his rights to represent himself and asks the court to move immediately to trial. The prosecutor is Willy Beachum, a hotshot D.A. who is getting ready to leave for a civil-law firm. He is told by everyone the case is open and shut. Crawford, however, sees Beachum's weakness - the hairline fracture of his character.

Summary
Add a SummaryAn excellent movie where a young brazen lawyer on a winning streak meets his match in a man who kills his wife.
This excellent suspense thriller takes us down the road of presumption; lawyer presumes he will win, killer presumes he will be let go.
Anthony Hopkins plays a menacing killer while Ryan Gosling tries to climb the corporate ladder.
I wonder who wins
14+, suspense, thriller

Comment
Add a CommentThis was a very good movie and shows what happens when a person thinks they know everything. Anthony Hopkins (as usual) played a very psychological and serene character that knew more than he led on. The adulterous wife was involved with a man who turned out to be the Lieutenant and the Prosecutor was a young arrogant man who thought he was God's gift to the legal system and could win every case hand's down.
I recommend this movie. It's worth watching especially, those who may think they're ahead of the game.... they need to step back and reevaluate what they're doing and who they think they can con.
An interesting film about lawyers and criminals.
So good!
This sit on the edge thriller is very suspenseful and the DVD has alternate endings.
Really enjoyed both performances of Gosling & Hopkins ( who doesn't like a bad Hopkins?)
Excellent, but 14+ with parental consent due to violence
Worth the rental
So-so pseudointellectual courtroom thriller with Anthony Hopkins playing his stock character of the hard-to-catch criminal genius. Maybe his performance is worth seeing once, although the plot is flawed by improbable and ludicrous twists. On a kinder note, I'd be seriously interested in the name of the tailor responsible for the business wardrobe of Rosamund Pike, Ryan Gosling's fizzled love interest.
