Nice period detective stories, with ongoing drama in the lives of our main characters and a little bit of morality for you, I enjoyed it. It's better than average, one of the good ones, but not brilliant or must see if it's not your thing. Compared to Downton Abbey or Mr. Selfridge, very similar in theme and quality, except the premise is crime solving vicar and hard-boiled policeman. Helps with the backstory plotline if you watch previous seasons first, but still works as standalone episodes.

My husband and I have really enjoyed watching all three seasons in one binge-filled Grantchester marathon!!

Turned into a silly soap opera with little redeeming features. All about cheating rather than solving any mysteries. No priest could behave the way he does without people noticing. If he wanted the girl, ditch the collar. You can't have it both ways. Just stupid.

I could not believe how vapid and inane this series has become. I did not find the ‘romances’ at all interesting and they dominated the mysteries, which serves no one. Either be a romance or a mystery, do one well, not both done badly.

I agree that this season is not as good as the last two. I like character development, and I think they've done a good job with Leonard and Mrs M. BUT I hate when writers use the crutch of "on-again/off-again" romances and "teen angst" in adult characters, as they've done with Sydney. WAY too much time was spent on that. Really - Let's move on! Hope next season is better.

Rated 8/10. The 1st season I rated a 10, and the 2nd season, a 9.

I'm not sure if this series is starting to run out of steam, but the 3rd is definitely not as good as the first two, in my opinion. Perhaps it's because I prefer that stories concentrate more on mysteries, and not just turn into a soap opera, delving into the personal lives of the characters. Too much time was spent doing that with the 3rd season.

It is uncertain, at this point, if there will be a 4th season, but if it does return, they need to get back to some solid murder mystery solving.

I have seen Seasons 1 and 2 on PBS and while I enjoyed the season in general, I was annoyed with the presence of the woman Granchester supposedly cannot 'get over'.
If he could not get over her, then all he has to do is marry the woman, he is after all an Anglican pastor not a Roman Catholic priest. So all the angst is so superficial and unnecessary. It was an irritant that I did not need to enjoy the series. Hope she get written off in any future series. In my opinion that is the weakest part of the series and not in least bit realistic.

Fabulous mystery series from Masterpiece, set in the 1950's where returning veteran becomes a pastor. The relationship between Sidney and Geordie is well developed as are their personalities; each having their own demons. These are real people set in difficult situations, and then there is a mystery. I have enjoyed the whole series on PBS.
