I loved this unusual movie. Just love the way the story line is tied to leadership and the peace issues in the Middle East. I also like how it showed how powerful politicians started as ordinary people and the things they do to hold to power. Most of the time they view us as chess pieces in their power game, why is it always so?
I'm looking forward to watching the political movie made by Hugh Jackman, may be I would find one politician with integrity.
It is worth watching and having a discussion at the end, a good conversation and provoking film.

I had picked this 2016 film, since it had Richard Gere (An Officer and a Gentleman; Pretty Women; Chicago), of which I had not seen anything by him for awhile, but my partner and I gave up on watching this after the first 47 minutes. Then we skipped ahead to stop it again, but found it was not at all interesting, or clear on what it was trying to say or do.
We gave up on it and watched something else. I will credit actor Michael Sheen (Blood Diamond; Frost/Nixon; Underworld series; Kill the Messenger; Passengers), for this small but unfulfilling role, as he has been in some other more interesting and diverse films.
Maybe should have tried watching it until the end, but we had thrown in the towel before then.

Richard Gere's character was annoying to watch, but the way the movie played out and came together at the end made it worth seeing ........ Gere did seem to be channeling Woody Allen at times, but Allen would have been a caricature in the role. Good to watch at home where you can take a break from it but then come back. The ending surprised me.

Off beat but compelling story of a guy who wants to be somebody and a somebody who is known to those in power.

I did not like this one.

Never seen Richard Gere in a role like this and hope I never do again. This movie does however reveal the power of the tongue.

Felt this movie was too dragged out. I can imagine such a person being a dealer in trying to make connections with everyone...maybe to be a part of everyone's life. Maybe they are too lonely or maybe they just want to know everything.

long boring and most of it in a language with no subtitles. very disappointing

Not my cuppa tea. I literally could not stand to watch it because it was too embarrassing and upsetting. Too much degrading schmoozing, too much angst, too much desperate & humiliating behavior. This movie tapped into some really primal emotions --- like I can't stand clinging, demanding people. It was truly painful to know how it would end. Still, you gotta hand it to Gere. He's a superb actor who can sell that role very convincingly --- too much so for me.

Norman was a strange one. Wore the same clothes. Why did we never see his apartment? Movie to long, appeared as though he lived on the street. Special features interesting. Never did figure out if the green items he was eating was candy or meds. Not sure of where his income came from.

Only one single quote at IMDb :
Norman Oppenheimer: There are two kinds of moguls: First kind is like a big ocean liner ship. Makes a lot of waves, a lot of noise, everybody sees it coming from miles away. Like Jo Wilf. I think your boss, Minister Maor, is actually... in his close circle of friends. of course. And then there is Arthur. Well, Arthur is more like a nuclear submarine. he's quiet, he's fast, he's young. Extremely sophisticated.

How do you say goral? Fate. Fate. I feel fate. If God put me here, he must have had a good reason. Now, I'm not free to run away from this job, but to be honest, no single human being can really claim to be big enough for this job either.
History is full of anonymous heroes, Norman. The day I walk up to that podium to sign the peace treaty, you will see a very specific expression on my face. Know that I will be thinking of you...

Stomp on a glass at wedding per film:
Tradition explains the act of breaking the glass reminds us to turn our hearts towards the city of Jerusalem. In which the ultimate peace shall be granted to the world.

vs the explanation in wiki:
The primary reason is that joy must always be tempered.[25] This is based on two accounts in the Talmud of rabbis who, upon seeing that their son's wedding celebration was getting out of hand, broke a vessel – in the second case a glass – to calm things down. Another explanation is that it is a reminder that despite the joy, Jews still mourn the destruction of the Temple in Jerusalem.
