From the Netherlands to Germany to Argentina, this novel braids together the stories of three individuals who share a dark secret and are entangled in two of the most oppressive reigns of terror in modern history. This is about the blurred lines between love and lust, abuse and resistance, and right and wrong, as well as the capacity for ordinary people to persevere and do the unthinkable in extraordinary circumstances.

I had misgivings about even starting this book and soon realized they were well-founded. It is a horrifying depiction of the atrocities and abominations perpetuated in the camps. I couldn’t, not did I want to read anymore.

Have read better holocaust books. Lost my interest describing each encounter with brutal officers.

I had read about the book, and it sounded like it was worth a try. Really enjoyed it, and the twist at the end comes out of the blue.

This is a thoroughly engrossing read, from the very first chapter. I was completely drawn into the stories of the three main characters, which were at times heart-wrenching. This book really makes you think about the choices people make to survive when faced with unimaginable hardship, and the consequences of extreme actions. The ending was completely unanticipated. I highly recommend this book.
