Good film overall, although I felt something was a bit off throughout.

I really enjoyed this movie - a period piece and courtroom drama. One small criticism is that people spoke differently back then and I wish they used more the language of the day.

Interesting court case of a black man and white socialite woman where Marshall was only an adviser and could not speak since he was from out of state.

I enjoyed this movie it was an excellent movie to watch because it was based on a true story that happened in real life. However I though it was going to be a Rated-R movie because of the violence, coarse language, and sexuality it had.

Chadwick Boseman plays a charming, confident young Marshall. This movie will keep you entertained, while also giving a serious look at racism and inequality in 1940.

This was a wonderful movie. Well acted (nice to see some “Chicago PD” ladies in this!) and edited. Great sets and costumes. Probably not a lot of people actually know the background of Thurgood Marshall and the NAACP, which makes this very interesting. Not for youngsters due to the subject of the trial.

I knew this DVD was about Thurgood Marshall, but didn’t know if it was biographical or a story about his legal career. It is actually about a case early in his career when he was an attorney for the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People). He is tasked to represent an African-American man who is accused of raping a white socialite woman in Connecticut. He connects with a local CT attorney to get him to petition the CT court for admission, but the court denies the motion and so Marshall pairs with the CT attorney Sam Friedman who is white, Jewish and practices civil litigation – insurance fraud, to jointly represent the defendant. The judge has not admitted Marshall and will not allow him to speak in court. The film probably based in the late 1930s or early 1940s showcases the bias against blacks and Jews during the era and showcases individuals willing to fight or challenge a system, a society that denies civil rights, equal rights and/or basic justice. The film is basically a trial, so lots of talking, but interesting if you enjoy legal drama. Thurgood Marshall, of course went on to be the first African American appointed as a judge to the U.S. Supreme Court in 1967.
