The kid actors were astounding under the brilliant direction of Andrés Muschietti. The violence is expected--it is a horror movie based off a Stephen King novel, after all. I happened to like Bill Skarsgard's performance as Pennywise, too. Although many fans compare Bill'sperformance to Tim Curry's unsettling job as Pennywise in the 1990s miniseries, Bill's acting was not supposed to reflect like Tim's, but to give the character of Pennywise a different perspective.

R-rated and too scary and misguided for most teens. For adult viewers, it was a horror film when a bunch of bullied kids with abusive or absent parents bonded to save themselves from the mythical Pennywise. The best scenes was the opening sequence and soon became a long string of jump scares. BTW, the "indifference" message to the grown ups delivered in Sc. 108 "Stanley's Bar Mitzvah Speech" from "The Deleted Scenes" is a good one. (...If any of you opened your eyes, if you really cared, you would see what we're going through. I guess indifference is a part of growing up...")

I agree with ERS614's comments below. This is a terrible movie.

I was impressed with the children acting, writing and overall, the film in general. I had not seen the Tim Curry version, nor have read the Stephen King book. It had scary moments and the clown was creepy enough and thought it had more depth than expected, as it was not just a horror film, but showed character development with the some of the kids.
I was not sure what the meaning of the reference to a dream, by one of the children, as adults would be, but as the film ends, it has end credits as Chapter One. So based upon whether it did well enough in the box office, it may have a sequel.
The Special Features has some deleted scenes, interviews with the director and child actors, and even a 12 minute interview with Stephen King. To my surprise, he says he likes this film!
Worth the watch.

I heard such good things about this movie, but I was disappointed. The kids did a fantastic job and the clown is scary.. when they don't add cheesy CG effects, like those goofy eyes in the sewer scene. But the music... Ugh... Constant music that made it feel like a early 90s tv horror film. I thought it was poorly directed and poorly edited. It's a great script, but it just wasn't executed right. There was some scary moments (all were in the trailer) but it just didn't feel scary enough.

A scary movie performed by a group of children. Pretty good acting for the young cast.

Well acted with a great plot. Makes me want to read the book.

2 stars for having good child actors with great chemistry while also having a really good introduction to the movie.

Pennywise was completely wasted on jumps scares whereas in the book there is a lot more building of tension and a feeling of dread. I really dislike that IT kidnapped one of the kids and I hated pointless dancing scene that could have instead just shown how IT came to earth and the devastation that occurred with the arrival and later on in history.

A number of the children's characters were also not correct with the book giving Stan and Mike less of an impact (Stan being the one to make everyone swear to return while also being the one to hold on to reality the most - and Mike being the history buff thanks to his father) in the movie.

There were also a few music/montages that didn't make any sense to me. Cleaning up a blood drenched bathroom - doesn't make me want to listen to rock and roll and have a good time. The rock fight scene was also rather odd especially with the random slow-mo part that just made the whole thing silly rather then a desperate act of resistance and comradery.

As a whole, watching the movie in theaters was a fun experience however the movie came across as more of a comedy with some a bunch of jump scares as opposed to a horror movie that would leave you scared.

The Tim Curry original is better. Closer to the book.

If we split up like last time, that clown will kill us, one by one, but if we stick together, all of us... we'll win. I promise.
There is a church full of Jews. And Stan has to take the super Jew-y test.
-But how does it work?
They slice the tip of his dick off.
-But then you'll have nothing left!
It is true.
- Wait, you guys! Hey, Stan, what happens at the mitzvah anyways?
Ed says you slice the tip of the d-d-d-dick off.
-Yes, Rabbi's gonna pull down your pants. And he will tell the crowd: "Where's the beef?".
At he bar mitzvah, I read from the Torah... and then I make a speech, and suddenly I become a man.
Ok so let me get this straight. IT comes out from wherever to eat kids for like a year and then what? IT just goes into hibernation?
-Maybe it's like... What do you call it? Cicadas. You know, the bugs that come out once every 17 years.
