Gary Oldman is excellent. He is such a versatile actor who has finally been given the credit that he deserves when he was honored with the Best Actor Oscar for this film. I was more informed regarding these events because of the Darkest Hour and the movie Dunkirk.

Gary Oldman is as good as they say he is--so good you forget it's him. The movie is great, too; war scenes miniscule, war itself huge.

Gary Oldman was amazing as Churchill and definitely deserved to win the Academy Award for best actor. The movie really conveys the tension in the government and the pressures Churchill was under during this crucial moment in British history.

Gary Oldman was fabulous, giving great character to Mr. Churchill. I was very interested to see the 6 weeks prior to the Dunkirk rescue; the politics, the decisions, the weight of the decisions to be made. Excellent movie.

Gary Oldman's acting was impeccable. However, the subject matter of the film ended when I thought it would start - the period of the actual fighting with Germany.

I cannot give this film the praise it has garnered from critics and award guilds. It was a good film, but it was not excellent. Gary Oldman seemed more concerned about doing an impression than acting. Lily James was great in her role. Kristin Scott Thomas and Ben Mendehlson were excellent in their starring roles. I personally did not like the choice to film the movie in such dark light. Even outdoor day time scenes were filmed as though it was overcast, and some scenes which likely would have happened in the day were filmed at night to give it the dark mood. Gary Oldman's voice was sometimes very hard to understand doing the dialogue. I think what should have been the most rousing scenes (Churchill's famous speeches) were more subdued - the dark lighting had something to do with that, but so did the dour mood employed throughout the film. All in all, this is a good movie that feels like it was half of what it could have been if it was in better hands.

Each scene was amazing in itself. Gary Oldham performing Churchill 's greatest speeches was a treat. You've come to the right movie if you like a solid historical bio that delivers.

Great historical novel and the acting superior.

Excellent even though it was 2 hours long. Oldham did a superior job of portraying the greatest man in the 20th century. His makeover was amazing. Be sure and watch bonus features. Winston was the greatest human in my life time along with Franklin Roosevelt and Lincoln. Lots of mumbling and could not always understand all of the limey dialog. What he did for Dunkirk was amazing. A peace treaty with Hitler was not an option even though the Parliament wanted to override Winston. He stuck by his guns. V for victory his famous sign.

Lots of history in this movie. Not sure I got it all because I was tired and fell asleep.
