This is the final volume in Vincenzi's 'Spoils of Time' trilogy, which began with 'No Angel'; while technically it can be read without reading the other two, I would strongly advise against it, as it can't be fully appreciated without the preceding two volumes. Anyway, this one follows a new generation of Lyttons as older members of the family die and fade into the background, though family matriarch Celia continues to play a crucial role. Watching Celia's development from a headstrong 18-year-old who deliberately gets herself pregnant so her parents will let her marry the man she loves to a totally imperious 60-something head of a publishing house has been a joy to watch over the three books. It's refreshing to read about a female protagonist who isn't always likable; one who has cheated on her husband, who can be quite Machiavellian, who doesn't demand that you love her. (I love her anyway.) These books aren't terribly deep, they're very soapy and melodramatic, but they make you care deeply about the characters, and the pages practically turn themselves. I've thoroughly enjoyed all three; my only complaint is that the ending of this one felt a tad abrupt.
No Angel, Something Dangerous and Into Temptation were marvelous books read in that order. Put me in mind of Barbara Taylor Bradford - Substance of a Woman series.
