Interesting way to combine drama for the adults while keeping the trademark Mister Rogers elements for the children. The world needs more Mister Rogers and Maya Angelou people leaders ... without turning the world into a Communist/Socialist earth.

The acting of Tom Hanks was very much like the original TV show. I found the movie interesting with a bit more in the background of the original shows and man.

I was not expected a man of such quality and love.

I greatly appreciated the honour with which Mr. Rogers operated his show. There is so much to learn from this remarkable man of character for us all.

I watched the first Muppets movie and loved it. I thought this movie would do the same thing for Mister Rogers as the Muppet movies did for the Muppet TV show. I was wrong and the kids boredom soon turned into a major rebellion and we had to stomp out of the movie theatre popcorn in hand. Pizza, ice cream and the beach didn't quite make up for the disappointment.

Tom Hanks shines as Fred Rogers. Interestingly, Tom Hanks was Rogers' favourite actor. Great acting by all and excellent director. Inspired by reporter Tom Junod's article on Fred Rogers.

Actually pretty dark movie. Might have helped my childhood if had watched Mr Rogers.
Commentary with director and director photography very good also.

This movie is ok. I grew up with Mr. Dressup though, and couldn't relate to this film much. Some of it was a bit boring.

Not quite what I was expecting, but I was immediately drawn into the story of how a jaded reporter found his life forever altered by his chance introduction to Mr. Rogers. At first Lloyd scoffs at the "too good to be true" nature of the beloved children's television icon, and the lessons taught on the show. But despite himself, he finds that this connection becomes a force for good in his own life. I caught myself leaning in towards the TV wondering what would happen next. Loved it.

When the movie came my wife said she had seen it with one of her girlfriends and it was fine but she said not my type of movie so will send it back without watching it.

Wish I could have made it through more than 20 minutes, but the pacing was killing me. I love all the actors in this film. However, since Hanks was cast - of course -- Mr. Roger's show was used to frame and market the film, but for me, it was also its undoing. Though a clever concept, it grew tiresome after 10 minutes. The two leads needed to meet sooner (didn't wait for that scene); five minutes in e.g., start with reporter's assigned a story, he's not happy about it and then boom, he's calling or knocking at Rogers' door. Perhaps after, we could have seen that dad's still an alcoholic scene; I also found it believable that as grownup, his son would still be furious and kind of a jerk to his father too. They cast the perfect actors for this match. Perhaps the slow pacing was an intended homage to Mr. Rogers' show, but gosh, so deadly for a film when there wasn't enough of an engrossing story present. Maybe I should have been more patient, considering all of the positive reviews below. However, the article I read about the reporter was far more interesting and gripping from the get go. That was a great film outline.

So how does it feel to be married to a living saint?
-You know, I'm not fond of that term. If you think of him as a saint, then his way of being is unattainable. You know, he works at it all the time. It's a practice. He's not a perfect person. He has a temper. He chooses how he responds to that anger.
That must take a lot of effort.
-Well, yeah, he... He does things every day that help to ground him. Reads Scripture, swims laps, prays for people by name. Writes letters, hundreds of them. He's been doing that since I met him.
So... you've covered some heavy stuff, uh, especially for a show aimed at children.
-Oh, I'm glad you've had the chance to view the program. Death, divorce, war. It gets dark.
You know, death is something many of us are uncomfortable speaking about. But to die is to be human. And anything human is mentionable. Anything mentionable is manageable. Anything mentionable is manageable.
