Candide is about a man who believes in the philosophy, "What happens, happens for the best in the end", taught to him by his personal philosopher Dr. Panlosss. Candide goes through many trials. Everyone he meets has had something terrible happen to them. He searches the world over for his love Cundgonde. In the end, Candide finds that the simplest things in life - love, friends, and health - are all that matter.

A strange, satirical, over-the-top philosophical book following the travels of Candide as he searches for a way to be with his beloved Lady Cunegonde.
Philosophical themes such as optimism, pessimism, and pragmatism are woven into the novel, and the absurdities that occur amidst their cruel world really bring these philosophical ideas to light.
Is everything for the best? Can everywhere eventually achieve a status such as Eldorado's?
Or is life just boredom and suffering?

I absolutely loved the literary devices used in this book of literature. I truly felt that I could understand the story and it was very well written. A great classic read!

Its hard to believe that everything happens for a reason and sometimes even I doubt it myself, other times I truly believe it. For example when I came to take this book out, the computer for placing holds was broken, so I quickly questioned the librarian on what to do, she attempted to fix it but all her effort was in vain, soon I simply asked for her to point me in the right direction for this book, quickly I found it and brought it to the self checkout center, and now the book could not be checked out. Again I came to her dumbfounded she checks the book on the liberian desk and tells me that the book is mine to keep because the data base did not have it in the system, of course after consulting with her superiors. I didn't take this event with a grain of salt because it is hard to believe that life is coincidental, and I want you to think about your life as well.

Ok novel, although some parts were somewhat strange. Despite those parts, it was well written but I do not entirely reccommend teens reading it. Overall, I do not think the book should be banned...but do not make it required reading on the other hand...

I had no idea this book was so funny! My introduction to Voltaire and I'm ready for more.
