Ghosts are everywhere in Shelly's life. Recently passed people, pets, and a boy who lives in the local graveyard are all part of the spirit world that she and her grandmother inhabit. Shelly and her grandmother assist lost souls transitioning to the next world. But when Shelly's mom dies, her relationship to ghosts and death changes. She begins hiding ghosts in her room instead of helping spirits move on. But Shelly can't ignore the one that's missing. Why isn't her mom's ghost coming home?

Newcomer Allison Mills (Ililiw/Cree and settler Canadian) presents her first middle grade novel about an indigenous family and their relationships to ghosts. This unique and heartwarming debut features Shelly, a young girl who lives with her mother and grandmother. Their family has always been able to see ghosts, and Shelly and her grandmother catch them in their hair in order to help them move beyond the physical world (although Shelly’s mother disapproves). When Shelly’s mother dies suddenly, Shelly is anxious for her ghost to appear. But when she doesn’t, Shelly takes matters into her own hands...or hair.
