I admit I have not finished this book-I am about 1/2 way through it. It is not as good as I had hoped. I am already skipping through the pages looking for something interesting to read! It is quite violent (well, ok-what did I expect from a book about an executioner?), and the characters are, for the most part, uninteresting. The plot drags, with way too much detail about insignificant stuff. I understand there are more books in this series-I won't be reading them. This is not really my idea of historical fiction. HIstorical fiction is Ken Follet or Edward Rutherford. This author does not even come close!

At first the immense detail was overwhelming but once I became accustomed to the verse it was a very intense and good read.
