In this sequel to author L. M. Montgomery's beloved novel The Story Girl, Beverley picks up the narrative where it left off in the previous story and fills readers in on all that transpires when the original crew of cousins and friends begins to leave childhood behind in favor of grown-up pastimes and romances. A nostalgic look back at childhood in a long-past era, The Golden Road is a must-read for anyone who ever whiled away a summer trading tall tales with a tightly knit group of friends.

The Golden Road is a sequel to the popular book, The Story Girl. The Golden Road proceeds to narrate the tale of the beloved characters from the previous book. From age eleven to fourteen, Beverley and Felix King, Dan, Felicity, and Cecily King, Peter Craig, Sara Ray, and the Story Girl "walk the golden road of youth" together. The crew haven't changed, but they noticeably have more quiet, beautiful reflections than in the summer before, startling the reader with their mature thoughts. Of course, their hilarious adventures continue, not disappointing enthusiastic Story Girl readers. The "diamond", frosty winter charm and fun of this novel will delight and captivate readers as much as the golden, luxurious summer charm of The Story Girl did. While the ending is not as happy and satisfying as The Story Girl, and there are many dim foreshadowings of their futures, as the narrator Bev says, "We may long have left the golden road behind, but its memories are the dearest of our eternal possessions; and those who cherish them as such may haply find a pleasure in the pages of this book, whose people are pilgrims on the golden road of youth."
