Profiles more than eighty of the world's most influential women, past and present, each with information on the woman's upbringing, professional contributions, and impact on her field and on history.

Book News
This two-volume set profiles 88 of the world's most influential women, past and present, examining the strength, talent, and determination needed by women in order to gain power in a man's world. The essays have been gathered from many different titles in the Salem Press catalogue and range in length from 2,000 to 2,500 words. Arranged alphabetically, each begins with ready-reference information, including dates and places of birth and death and a short statement on the individual's overall contribution to politics and the world. The remainder of the articles cover facts about the subject's upbringing and her life up to the point at which her major work began, a chronological account of that period during which the most significant achievements were made, an evaluation of her contributions to or impact on history that places her life and achievements in context, and an annotated bibliography. Appendices offer alternative ways to access the subjects, i.e. the time line, and geographical listings. The volumes include many b&w photographs and drawings. Annotation c.
