The 10th anniversary edition of A New Earth with a new preface by Eckhart Tolle.

With his bestselling spiritual guide The Power of Now, Eckhart Tolle inspired millions of readers to discover the freedom and joy of a life lived “in the now.” In A New Earth, Tolle expands on these powerful ideas to show how transcending our ego-based state of consciousness is not only essential to personal happiness, but also the key to ending conflict and suffering throughout the world. Tolle describes how our attachment to the ego creates the dysfunction that leads to anger, jealousy, and unhappiness, and shows readers how to awaken to a new state of consciousness and follow the path to a truly fulfilling existence.

Illuminating, enlightening, and uplifting, A New Earth is a profoundly spiritual manifesto for a better way of life—and for building a better world.

Contends that humanity has an unprecedented opportunity to shift from its dangerous, ego-based state of consciousness to a saner, more loving existence, and offers practical advice on how to promote kindness and freedom. Explaining that the current state of humanity is erroneously and dangerously ego-centric, an argument for a shift in consciousness reveals how the modern world can become more sane and loving, in a spiritual exploration that offers practical advice on how to promote kindness, freedom, and a realization of humanity's potential.

If you really want to change the world through love, read The Sermon on the Mount, by Emmet Fox. That'll knock your sox off.

I found this book absolutely amazing. The material was presented in a way that it really was a quick and easy read... or maybe that was just because I enjoyed it so much. The ideas are not difficult to apply to your life, and if everyone applied them, they would be really beneficial to the whole world in my opinion. I feel much freer and much less judgmental towards all people, actions, and events. I am really glad I read this book.

While the ideas and concepts in this book are ancient (going back to Bubbha and many others) they are very much still relavent. If your interested in and vying for a different social/religious narrative than the one we currently live in (celebrity ideals, obsession with money, fundamentalism etc) then this book is surely a necessary read. But I think this book can lead to enlightening growth for anyone who picks it up.

The concept of being present is something we're not familiar with in this culture, but a good anchor into our lives. Think about it, while you read this it is Now (right now, the present)... While you read this (italics), it is still Now. You are not the future, you are not the past, you are Now- over and over again. That's not to say don't plan ahead- it's meant to free you of shackles... Eckhart Tolle says more and thankfully says it better!

If one approaches this book, or any book, with a chip on his/her shoulder, then the message will be lost on the reader. The fact that Oprah supports the book is irrelevant. The message from Eckhart may not be completely new, but it is even more relevant today than ever.

This is Eastern Religion.. it is Non-Dualism.. God is everywhere.. which is Pan Theism.. It is not just spiritual it is religion. If the reader wants to embrace Eastern Religion then that is a choice.. but this is not just a Psychology self help book...
There are far more capable authors on Non Dualism than this newbie.. One basic belief that is held in the East especially in India is that a Teacher offers his teaching for no money..if not, then he is a fraud..
This book is a waste of time no matter how much Oprah supports it.
Oprah used to attend a Baptist church but she did not like that GOD could be a jealous GOD so she dumped Christianity because of that. Now she has her own on line church with many followers which means nothing at all.. many can be wrong ...

Eckhart always gives me food for thought. There is a new way of looking at old problems. I will need to re-read a few more times to fully grasp his ideas.

While this was a good book overall, none of the ideas are new. It is simply a repeat of old principles endorsed by Oprah Winfrey. To me there were no surprises here and I have seen better formats.

I think it's great to inject some non-fiction into the usual fiction fare for book club and Tolle's A New Earth is a good non-fiction start. Non-denominational, spiritual as opposed to religious, Tolle certainly challenges us and inspires us to think about the world and our views about it and the people who populate it. This would be an especially interesting discussion in a club with a diverse religious background as Tolle's philosophy is inclusive of all religions (including the secular).
