The premise is potentially hilarious: James Bond is actually a monogamous man with a great deal of respect for women, but he retired and MI6 didn't want to be seen as weak without their prime agent, so they replaced him with another 007, a guy who turned out to be the womanizing James Bond we know from the movies. Turns out, the real James Bond has to come out of retirement to save the world from SMERSH. Such a possibly GREAT set up. Alas, this film is a disaster. I did not know it was directed by multiple people who each helmed a portion of it. As I watched, I kept thinking, it's like a bunch of writers had all these different bits or ideas for a Bond spoof, but didn't have a good enough screenwriter to make a coherent script so they loosely mashed these different bits together. Turns out, not only was the movie a mash up of incoherent skits, but some of the original directors dropped out before finishing and a writer (Val Guest) had to take over and finish those parts as Director. What was supposed to be an 8 week job, turned into 8 months. In the extras, Val Guest says John Houston said to him, "You know, this could turn into a load of crap, couldn't it?" Yep, it did turn into that... If you're looking to enjoy a spy spoof, for my money, watch Austin Powers The Spy Who Shagged Me instead.
