The creativity of the late Muppet creator Jim Henson was groundbreaking. He's reached out to millions of children over the years with his impressive array of fuzzy creatures. Hence, I do not want my review to be misconstrued as unappreciative of that facet of the movie. The pre-CGI effects were remarkable, and most likely exhausting to manufacture and operate. I particularly enjoyed the "Helping Hands", and the ingenuity of the M. C. Escher staircase maze. The storyline itself, however, was boring. Just plain dull and juvenile. Perhaps if I had seen this as a kid, it would have some sentimental value. I didn't. It doesn't. Bowie is hugely overrated. He's a talentless fraud and he just about ruined the film for me. Jennifer Connelly's cuteness balanced things out, though. Oh well, I had high hopes for this one. Unfortunately I feel 2½ stars is generous.
