Very entertaining, but never quite finds the right balance between humor and violence. McDonagh is a well-regarded playwright, but he hasn't mastered calibrating how much gore to display on the screen. In this case, it's WAY too much, and finally turns one off to some really superb acting and quirky verbal brilliance. Stage blood is NOT screen blood, and he doesn't GET IT YET. However, for those of us who have despaired of Colin Farrell, let it be said that he is absolutely wonderful in this, and that it's a damn shame that none of this skill and soulfulness has ever shown up before or since.
