Catrina Allende-Delmar, an anxious tween, is not too thrilled about moving to a new town. Bahía de la Luna is cold, windy, and foggy, but she understands that the weather there is better for her little sister Maya, who has cystic fibrosis. When her new neighbor, a boy named Carlos, tells them that the town is full of ghosts, Cat is terrified but Maya is determined to meet one! Will Maya’s wish to meet a ghost be granted? Will Cat meet a ghost? And will she, as Maya likes to say, “just go with it”? This was another fantastic graphic novel by Raina Telgemeier. It's her usual realistic fiction but with a touch of magical realism. The illustrations are vivid and wonderfully reflect the characters’ emotions as well the the town’s blustery climate. In “A Few Notes about Ghosts” at the end of the novel, a quote from the author is a perfect summary of the novel’s overall theme: “Making peace with your ghosts is as profound as the idea of life itself. And at the end of the day, love transcends life and death.”
