Let's start with Gaius. Gaius who suddenly changes and cares about his family. That pretty much sums up this book. Characters randomly change for the better or make bad decisions out of the blue. There's no dawning realization, just snap 180s. It's the opposite of Magnus and Cleo's relationship, which I believe took three books. There has to be some sort of middle road here. By the end I had trouble telling some of the characters' voices apart. On the upside there are some interesting advances with the Kindred. Is it enough to make me continue with the series? Not immediately.
