The reviews aren't very helpful in describing this stand-alone novel by Stiefvater. At bottom, this is a fantasy about love, and I enjoyed it very much, finishing it in two nights. The Sorias are a family of hereditary saints who grant miracles: making people's darkness physically manifest itself. But the second miracle is the responsibility of the pilgrim, who must understand what the first miracle is trying to tell him or her. However, the Sorias themselves are in need of miracles, and love is what brings about change at last. Beautifully and imaginatively written, this is a truly unique and satisfying story.
