In this 2017 movie, four teens are transported into the video game called Jumanji. They have a new bodies complete with unique strengths and weaknesses of different characters in the game. They also have a mission… retrieve a valuable gem from an evil warlord and return it to the statue where it came from. If they can’t do this, they’ll never leave the game. Violence is largely used for comedic effect, but as the plot of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is focused around a video game, we get video game style violence. There is also a lot of gun violence but not too much blood or scary scenes. This movie is very fast pace and is one of my favourites. It definitely deserves a 5/5 and I recommend this book to anyone ages 12+ interested in action films or likes the actor Dwayne Johnson (The Rock). @GymGirl of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was a hilarious and wonderful retelling of the Robin Williams classic and was easily one of the most enjoyable films of 2017. The combination of actors was spectacular, each one bringing something new and exciting to the table. The video game recreation of the original board game gave the movie a modern feel and the portrayal of teenagers I found was very accurate. The film was paced perfectly and left just enough room for humour and intrigue, enough so that it never got boring. While the storyline was quite basic, it was made up for with the impeccable CGI and plot details, as well as having a satisfying end.
