This book might be an example of brilliantly distilled horror, needed nothing more than a few simply sketched characters, a basic unsurprising plot, and jarringly incomplete sentences (on pages with surprisingly large font and lots of white space). Or maybe I'm trying too hard to like it. This is a book that just feels unfinished, like a rough draft quickly written up and still needing to be fleshed out. It left me wanting, especially from an author that crafted the story of Hannibal Lecter and Clarice. Clearly there is a setup for future books or maybe even a movie (god forbid), but I'm not sure I'll tag along.
