On one hand this book was filled with too much exposition. There was lots of telling instead of showing. It seemed a little heavy handed at times. On the other hand, I could not wait to go home and read it. The historical information is fascinating as is Clemmie Kat's relationship with her Pug. The author does show how both Winston and Clemmie grew up with beautiful tempestuous mothers that made them feel lonely. It also shows Clementine's failings as a parent.
The book convincingly examined the relationship between Winston and Clemmie and also had a great dialogue with Eleanor Roosevelt
