Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the third in a trilogy of Marvel movies. The movie is based around how Rocket the Raccoon became who he is. The movie starts with showing Rocket as a baby and his 3 friends. Rocket ends up getting injured and has 48 hours to be helped, but something is stopping the Guardians from saving him. As they travel the galaxy to save Rocket, they run into some problems and find out about Rocket's past that he doesn’t like to talk about. The end of the movie is an ending that fans of this movie have been waiting for. I rate the movie a 3 out of 5. It wasn’t as good as the other two movies, but it wasn’t the worst trilogy I’ve seen. The movie had a few laughs and lots of Marvel-like action. Meaning not a lot of blood and it’s not extra gruesome. I would age this movie for 12+. If you liked the other Guardian of the Galaxy movies, you may like this one, but I would lower your expectations. – B.D.Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is the third in a trilogy of Marvel movies. The new live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” starring Hailey Bailey as Ariel, is one of the best live-action movies Disney has made. The movie had me singing, dancing and laughing the whole time. Just like the classic Little Mermaid, the plot is where Ariel saves Eric from the shipwreck and wants to know more about humans. Soon after, she makes a deal with the Sea Witch to trade her fins for legs in return for her voice, to find out what it is like to be a human. I rate this movie a 4.5 out of 5. I could watch this movie again and again. (Halle Bailey) Ariel was amazing with her singing and acting.
The whole movie was amazing! Sebastian’s “Jamaican accent” wasn’t the best, it sounded kind of fake compared to a real Jamaican accent. Apart from that, the whole movie was 100% child friendly. I would age this movie 6+. It is an ok movie for a 3-year-old to watch, but it is very long with it being 2.5 hours, which makes it better for older viewers who can sit through the whole movie. If you loved the original Ariel I would recommend watching the live-action one. The singing and all the songs are the same and the vocals are amazing. – B.D.The new live-action version of “The Little Mermaid” starring Hailey Bailey as Ariel, is one of the best live-action movies Disney has made. The book 'Secretly Yours' by Tessa Bailey tells the story of Hallie Welch and Julian Vos, who fell for each other when they were young and now have returned to their small town. When Hallie is hired to revamp the gardens on the Vos estate, she wonders if she'll finally get the kiss she has been wanting. However, the grumpy professor isn't the teenager she remembers, and their polar-opposite personalities clash. After a girls' night, Hallie can't shake the sense that she did something reckless, and then she remembers the drunken secret admirer letter she left for Julian.
This book evoked a range of emotions for me. The first part of the book was good, but then it fell off in the middle. However, it picked up again and got better, before falling off again. Usually, I like the female main character in books more than the male main character, but Julian was so nuanced, and layered that I ended up liking him more. That's not to say that the female main character, Hallie, wasn't fleshed out too, but Julian was just more entertaining and relatable. I appreciated how the author portrayed the tension between the two, and there were some funny moments in the book that I very much enjoyed. I would recommend this book to people who enjoy Tessa Bailey's writing style, and for anyone looking for a book to pass the time, this one is a good one. -MJThe book 'Secretly Yours' by Tessa Bailey tells the story of Hallie Welch and Julian Vos, who fell for each other when they were young and now have returned to their small town. Good Will Hunting is a movie that displays the reality and struggles of growing up. Will (the protagonist) is a young adult with a lot of struggles, a long history, and trauma, but he plays it off by being a troublemaker. When Will gets in trouble, he is given the opportunity to turn his life around. He meets his therapist, who shows him even the hard things in life can teach you the greatest lessons.
I enjoyed this movie; I would have liked to see a better resolution between Will and Skylar. We see Will's character development throughout the movie; however, it would have been more interesting if they included flashbacks or showed how bad Will's childhood was. This movie is a coming of age, typical bad boy becomes good. You could compare this movie with Legally Blonde, as the main characters both discover their talents and prove this to the people around them. I would recommend this move to anyone above the age of 16, as it has some mature themes, however it has comedy, romance, and action all mixed into one. – book_worm_Good Will Hunting is a movie that displays the reality and struggles of growing up. While reading this book, I have never felt so conflicted; parts of it I loved, while other parts I needed to put it down for the day. I was relieved when I finished it, getting through such a depressing and heartbreaking novel. While reading we are following the character Theo, who is learning how to live his life after feeling responsible for the death of his mother. Meanwhile, while grieving the death of his mother we follow Theo into a life of crime, starting with stealing a painting of a Goldfinch, which leads him to lead his live riddled with anxiety. With the novel being written in past tense, we as readers get a deeper insight as to what Theo portrayed his life to be. He is someone who has experienced nothing but sadness within his life to say the least, Theo could never catch a break. This review of The Illegal, by Lawrence Hill, contains SPOILERS. The story sets the stage in a fictional country called Freedom State, based in the United States. Our protagonist is Keita Ali, an elite runner who is participating in a marathon. During the marathon, he is often irritated by the second-place runner who shouts out racial slurs and derogatory insults. Keita without a sweat continues as first while the man in second is described as breathing heavily and struggling with exhaustion. The prologue ends with Keita remembering a trick, “Want to shatter an opponent's confidence. Just when he starts to hurt, you sing”.
Lawrence Hill is a Canadian author who was inspired by black loyalists given freedom and began to write. He is famous for his book called Book of Negroes, published Jan 18th 2007; that got attention for its stories on people who had fled to Nova Scotia and other British colonies.
I was given a choice to read this book as a literacy assignment and decided to give it a try for its enticing blurb. After finishing the book, I was amazed at how it displays the reality of times during the 1800s. How black refugees would flee from corrupt governments and attempt to live in someplace that seemed better than their origin. Clear and concise details are given throughout the text on its settings and emotions spread throughout our protagonist’s journey. The characters are unique in their way and face their issues. Even minor characters get enough “plot time” to be portrayed in a great way. The majority of the book is quite good, however, the ending does seem rushed and too good to be true. It's an 8.8 out of 10 from me. - LYThis review of The Illegal, by Lawrence Hill, contains SPOILERS. The story sets the stage in a fictional country called Freedom State, based in the United States. The movie “Ford V Ferrari” is an exciting movie that accurately captures the rivalry of Ford and Ferrari in the 1960s. We also see the individual struggles that the characters go through. We see Ken Miles’ financial situation and Caroll Shelby’s health issues. The movie shows many true events in a way that captures the watchers attention. It shows the conflicts both companies faced, and showed the character development of many people, including Ken Miles. It shows the process that Ford went through in order to perfect a car in the little time they had. What I feel sets this movie apart from other racing movies, like the Lamborghini movie for example, is that it not only focuses on accuracy of the events and the settings but also does so in a way that puts the viewer into the movie. I’m so glad I read this. I really appreciate authors that take their time to publish books and write them properly, but this guy is on a different level and it shocks me. It took the author seventeen years to write, which is impressive. Honestly, I can tell that all of it paid off and I’m so glad that he saw this book all the way to the end. This is the type of book that PHYSICALLY hurts, if you know what I mean. While reading about poverty in the novel really makes me so emotional... Reading about all the problems from this time period was so eye opening and all the involvement with the court had me hooked, the old law system is so interesting! "The Happy Place" by Emily Henry is a novel about Harriet and Wyn, who have been in a relationship since college. However, they broke up six months ago, and they haven't told their friends about it. As a result, they find themselves sharing the largest bedroom at the Maine cottage that their friend group visits every year. During this week-long trip, they try to avoid acknowledging their feelings for each other, as the cottage is up for sale and this is the last time they will all be together in this place. Although the book has some good parts, it also has some bad parts, especially towards the end where it gets repetitive and less interesting. There isn't much conversation between Harriet and Wyn, and their interactions with their friends lack depth. However, the author did a good job with the way the chapters were written, each one covering a day of the week. While the book isn't particularly outstanding, I would recommend it to fans of Emily Henry's writing style. “The Bear” is a novella about the last humans on Earth, a girl and her father. The father teaches the girl everything he knows; he teaches her how to survive in the wilderness, how to show appreciation for the land, and he tells her all the stories and legends that he knows. I really liked this book because I felt that the ending is neither anticlimactic nor an overdramatized twist, it is the perfect ending to wrap up the book. It felt like poetry while reading, every line is written with intent. “The Bear” somewhat reminds me of Helen Humphrey’s “Wild Dogs” in the way that, while the plots aren’t similar, the main characters is a girl dealing with loss and growth while trying to survive in this world. Both books show that not everyone gets their happy ending, but rather the ending that is right for them. The book Shatter Me single-handedly brought me back into reading. From the self-discovery to the fight for freedom and the love triangle trope, I wasn't able to put the book down! I always said “One last chapter and then bed” and then had to continue to the next chapter because I had to know more about what happened.
I would definitely recommend this book to young adults and teens (15-25), as it has a dystopian theme that young adults grew up reading about (like Maze Runner and The Hunger Games), it has the romantic and drama aspect that I feel people between the age of 15-25 would enjoy, and Juliette being a great role model for young women showing that strength comes from within and embracing her unique abilities, that can encourage teens to follow in that model.
This goes to say that I really enjoyed reading this book, as it reminded me of two of my favourite books: Cruel Prince by Holly Black (for the characters and romantic subplot) as well as Divergent by Veronica Roth (for the dystopian plot and romantic subplot). Without saying any spoilers of the book, the part I enjoyed the most was when Juliette (the main character) learns more about herself and her power and becomes more into the strong and empowered female character role. - Nicole
The book takes place in an alternate universe where civilization is ruled by the Reestablishment and the Earth is in ruins. Juliette Ferrars, a 17-year-old girl with a rare and hazardous ability ("her touch may kill") is the main character of the novel. After being imprisoned and secluded for almost a year, she is given the option of using her skills as a weapon for the Reestablishment or accepting a life of loneliness. The male lead Aaron Warner has a cold and charismatic personality and is part of all the secrets that will be unraveled throughout the story.
This book was one of the best books that I ever read in my life. I’m a person who believes that reading is healing, and this book proved that to me as it takes you to another universe. It is set in a fantasy world and if you like these types of books, I 100% assure you that you will enjoy every bit of “Shatter Me”. The writing style of the book was more than amazing, the way the author jumped right into the plot without wasting time was awesome, and the conflicts that happened were shocking. There were a lot of emotions and challenges faced by the characters that explained more about there characteristics and development of each character. The narration is based on Juliette's point of view which makes us understand the way she thinks and the emotions that she went through while being isolated.
Overall, I would say that it’s well written, has a plot and doesn’t waste your time as it’s adventurous. This book reminds me of the Hunger Games, they are both ruled by a Reestablishment type government. - LEThe book Shatter Me single-handedly brought me back into reading. What makes an extraordinary book? A compelling protagonist with weaknesses and strengths, a well-crafted antagonist whose motives align with the situation to understand their perspective in a twisted way. A good storyline with conflicts that build up to a climax, sustaining readers interest throughout. Yet, the most crucial element of an amazing series finale is its ability to seamlessly thread together each book. However, I encountered a poorly written conclusion that failed to provoke emotion from Will to Survive by Eric Walters.
Intrigued by the concept, I purchased the rest of the series, only to lose my interest by the fourth chapter. Despite this, I was determined to complete it for a climactic ending, which proved to be a waste of time. Months passed and I was interrupted by a hiatus before I mustered the strength to finish the final book.
Frankly, I found the series quite repetitive, revolving around survival and tackling similar issues with different groups. When a new problem arose, they were swiftly resolved within a chapter, adding another scenario to the timeline to lose track of. Unfortunately, the ending was anticlimactic: there was no dramatic showdown between Adam and Brett, not even a cliché battle. Nor did I get sentimental over Herb’s death, due to Adam’s lack of emotion. Worst of all the execution of the lights flickering was brushed under the carpet. “A collective moan rose around me, but I felt like laughing instead. It was going to be okay. Somehow the lights had come back on for a few seconds. Someday the lights were going to come back on for good. There was always hope. Life would find a way.” I personally believe it was poorly written and barely encompassed the unified emotions. The entire story lacked feeling, leaving you behind with a shallow narrative of undeveloped characters.
Initially, I found it unique how the book took an alternate perspective; rather than saving the world and uncovering the cause, it was about survival, but now I hate the idea. Usually, I adore cliffhangers, but this series seemed to be building toward a definitive conclusion that should’ve answered most of your inquiries. Instead, it gives the illusion that all your reading was gone to waste because you never received a single answer.
I think this book would’ve been better on screen than on page, as it provides several unnecessary details leaving me impatiently skimming the pages, weakening my connection to the series. In fact, the book was excessively stretched on and could have been condensed into a single volume of 400 pages. Therefore, I have become hesitant to continue reading novels by Eric Walters after this 1-star series. - SumattWhat makes an extraordinary book? Creed 3, directed by Micheal B. Jordan himself, was one of the best trilogy and a movie I’m going to watch over and over. Creed 3 tells the story of Adonis Creed (played by Micheal B. Jordan) reconnecting with his childhood best friend Damian (Jordan Majors). Adonis considered Damian to be like a brother to him and the majority of the film is set after 18 years of Damian being in jail. When he got out of jail, Damian still has the same dream he’s had since childhood: to be the world's best boxer. This leads to a head-to-head between Adonis and Damian who are vying for the world's heavyweight boxer title.
I would rate this movie a 5/5. It shows how the people in your life impact you and how you can impact the others around you. You see a “famous” family going through the same problems that normal people may go through, and these “celebrities” are dealing with difficulty just like any other person would. The movie also shows that sometimes you just need to take a second and breathe and think. I recommend this movie for ages 13+ because it is about boxing which comes with a lot of fighting and blood. This is quite honestly one of the best books I’ve read in awhile.
Taylor Jenkins Reid’s novel tells the story of Hollywood legend and superstar, Evelyn Hugo, who chooses an unknown reporter named Monique Grant to share her entire life story to. Evelyn recounts her rise to fame, and as the story suggests, her seven marriages. The novel explores many different themes, such as sacrifice, betrayal, loyalty, loss, and tragedy….Though it doesn’t primarily focus on her seven husbands, but rather Ms. Evelyn Hugo herself.
For me, this story was wonderful, it has a number of twists and turns that kept me turning the pages, and it was a wonderful read. Outlander is a mix of historic and fantasy written by legendary writer Diana Gabaldon. It was originally published in 1991 as a stand-alone book, but the second book, “Dragonfly in Amber” was written a year later.
Outlander is set in the period of the Second World War. It follows a beloved main character, nurse Claire Beauchamp, who’s attempting to rebuild her marriage with her husband Frank. While on their second honeymoon, the couple learn about Frank’s ancestor, Jonathan Randall. Then, when Claire is abruptly transported through time back to 18th Century Scotland, she meets not only a handsome adventurer and warrior named Jamie Fraser… but also Jonathan Randall, of course.
The story follows Jamie and Claire, as their romantic relationships form, and action ensues. I personally really enjoyed this book. It was fresh (for being published in the 1990’s), and it was a very good read. Overall, I found the book to be just okay. There wasn't anything special about it and it was really hard to get into. Some of the choices Aaron made were out of character, which was a bit confusing. The book just kept dragging on and on for no reason and the enemies to lovers trope was barely there. There wasn't any tension or comments, and at the beginning, you saw right away that Aaron was in love with Catalina. I feel like the author shouldn't have shown it so soon. The Disney movie “Frozen” is a story about the newly crowned queen, Elsa accidentally freezing over her kingdom, and her younger sister, Anna, trying to save it. The story follows Anna, and other side characters, trying to track down Elsa to unfreeze the Kingdom of Arendelle.
I enjoyed this movie, especially when I was younger. This, of course, is a Disney movie, meaning that it is aimed at children; however I would argue that anyone can watch and enjoy them, so they really have an all ages kind of audience. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a movie they can watch with their entire family.
This movie was also very influential for its time. Not only does it have a plot twist, something not too common in a Disney movie, but also the main plot did not centre on a classic love story. This is more common with a Pixar movie; however a story focusing on a princess and queen without a main love story was rare for Disney. This movie was also different because Elsa was a queen, not a princess (so it doesn’t feel like it really belongs in the Disney Princess category. Frozen does have a love story but it also reinforces the fact that there are different types of love: romantic, platonic, etc. Spoiler Alert: In the movie true love is needed to save Anna and instead of it being a guy that she likes, it was instead her and Elsa’s love for each other that saved her. This movie is great for families or anyone looking for an all ages movie, I’d also recommend it if you like Disney or Pixar movies. - EliThe Disney movie “Frozen” is a story about the newly crowned queen, Elsa accidentally freezing over her kingdom, and her younger sister, Anna, trying to save it. Pride and Prejudice is a romance novel that mainly focuses on the relationship between two of the characters as it slowly develops throughout the book. One character falls madly in love immediately, while the other professes an undying hatred, which ends up dissolving into love by the end of the book. The story takes place in England during the late 1700’s or early 1800’s.
Despite the fact that the novel centers around a romance, there are many good messages and themes, which is why I adore the book. Some of the themes include society and its expectations, family and relationships, reputation, social class, women’s rights and gender roles, and of course pride and prejudice. I particularly enjoyed this novel because of the romance of course, but also due to the fact that it looks at the expectations that society had back in the late 1700s to the early 1800s. It is interesting to see how marriage was essential when courting or else it was frowned upon by society, how judgmental people were and how much people took that into consideration when making important choices, and how marriage wasn’t always two people in love coming together, but it was what would benefit your family and keep their and your reputation. It is just cool and funny to look at how things once were and how much they have changed but also how little they have changed as well. I also enjoyed the message of pride and prejudice it was so clearly outlined throughout the novel showing how these things can get in the way of so much.
I would say this book is more recommended for ages thirteen plus due to the fact that there are some strong messages and themes, but also because the novel uses slang and language from the late 1700s and early 1800s which may be harder for younger audiences to grasp and understand. Novels that are similar to this include Sense and Sensibility by Jane Austen, The Convenient Marriage by Georgette Heyer, The House Of Mirth by Edith Wharton, and more. - AlessandraPride and Prejudice is a romance novel that mainly focuses on the relationship between two of the characters as it slowly develops throughout the book. One character falls madly in love immediately, while the other professes an undying hatred, which…

King Richard is an incredible movie! Will Smith gives a powerful performance as Richard Williams, the father and coach of tennis superstars Venus and Serena Williams. The movie tells the inspiring true story of how Richard's determination and belief in his daughters' abilities propelled them to become two of the greatest athletes in the world. Will Smith brings depth and authenticity to his portrayal of Richard, showcasing his love for his family and his relentless pursuit of their dreams. I rate the movie 4 out of 5. I loved watching Serena play tennis, so seeing a movie about how she got to where she is was amazing. Seeing how it wasn't always good, but both girls grow and learned from their mistakes shows that you need to make mistakes to get better. The movie is filled with heartwarming moments, showcasing the bond between Richard and his daughters, as well as the challenges they faced along the way. It's a story of resilience, hard work, and the power of family. I highly recommend King Richard to all ages, as it's an inspiring and uplifting film that will leave you feeling motivated and inspired. But you should also keep on mind some of the language. – B.D.King Richard is an incredible movie!
